Blogging For Dollars

I recently attended the ASJA Conference (American Society of Journalists and Authors) in New York City. A workshop entitled Using Blogs & Technology to Market Your Writing featured Debbie Weil as one of the panelists. She provided solid information about blogging and its benefits, information I have been incorporating into my daily work habits ever since the conference. She is offering a free download of her book, 7 Tips to Write an Effective Business Blog if you sign up for her equally helpful newsletter. It provides tips on what to say, how to say it, and when to do it all.

Actually, I first learned about blogging during another workshop at the same conference. Sreenath Sreenivasan is a professor at the Columbia School of Journalism, a tech reporter for WNBC-TV, and runs Sree.net. Let’s put it this way, after attending his workshops during my first two conferences with ASJA, I will never miss another one of his workshops. His technical information for journalists is phenomenal and helps me tremendously.

Blogging has taken off. People use blogs for all types of things, but business seems to be one of the most effective uses. There are free blogging tools or those that charge fees to create and post your blog. I am personally in love with blogger. Run by Google, it provides the most idiot-proof tools I could find. You design your site, insert the copy and graphics, then post. It’s easy to post and edit your blog using eblogger. I plan on using it as a publicity tool when my next book comes out. Until then, I write about my life as a work-at-home mom and military spouse, and hope to provide useful information to others in similar positions around the world.

Check out the wonderful world of blogging and get your name out there!
